i need to know how to measure to find out how big of collar my dog needs.
He has a 18 1/2 inch neck.

Depending on what the collar is made of you can usually add a couple of holes if you order one too big. If you order too small you can't do anything with it.

Rule of thumb is to add 5-6 Inches to the length. Alot of it depends on the brand of collar and the style. Raven has a 19" neck and I use a 26" Remington Brand "D" in front collar. It is a little big, a 25" would be better, but they don't make that size.
