i've been living at squirrel dog central for several years. i have two feists, 6 and 7 yrs. old. i love hunting squirrels. the thing is, i want to hunt coons too. i'vre taken my feists out at night and they've treed a couple of coons but usually just tree possums.
i'm particularly interested in getting a couple of curs, that are open on track, maybe kemmer or stevens. i also have a plott hound breeder that lives just down the road. i love those dogs too.
i don't care to spend the night hunting hounds after i'm ready to go home. that's why i think a cur or maybe a plott would be better.
what do you think?

You want a cur then. A plott is just another kind of hound dog.

Get a tracker...If your going to coon hunt you will loose dogs.It does not matter what the breed your hunting ..curs or hounds......Most guys will tell you a tracker is the best money they ever spent...........

i completely agree! you need to get a tracker! that way when you get that perfect coondog you wont loose it the first nite you get it in the woods.

its all about personal preference on the breed you hunt- no breed is better than the other. theres good and bad in each breed and bloodline, just look for a dog that will tree coon.

If I was you I would get me a hound to hunt coon! You can look around and find a hound that will hunt close to mid. And that will check in with you and at that time if you are ready to go you can and if not seen it on its way. Good luck and have fun...
