No coonhound breed is better than the other. As long as the breed you are hunting is consistency treeing coon, then that is all that matters.

I agree with buckshot cause there is no better breed than any other. It all depends on the training they recieve. An old coonhunter told me that the registered papers can be used for fire starters cause they dont mean that much cause a grade dog or cross breed can tree a coon just as good.

a dog that will consistantly tree coon in any weather, dosnt run trash and isnt ill.

its ok to be partial to one breed but i wouldnt reccomend being completely stuck on one breed- youll miss out on alot of good dogs doing that. theres good dogs and bad dogs in every breed and in every bloodline. keep an open mind and remember to have fun- its not all about the meat!

Pick your favorite color. Then in that group decide if you want a fast-working hot-nosed dog (generally a smaller dog) that will pass over an old track for a fresher one or a slower-working cold-nosed dog that will be more thorough (generally an older style, bigger dog) and take the time to unravel a track that isn't so fresh. If you want to competition hunt you will want a hot-nosed dog. If you want to hunt for the pleasure of it you probably will want a cold-nosed dog. Whatever breed you choose you should eventually find a suitable dog for you in that breed.

don't limit yourself to just one breed they all have good and bad. I have a walker and two blues. My cousin had a hound that I never seen run any off game.I'm not saying I'm 100% sure it didn't but he was a outstanding hound.
