Post subject:  Hunting dog and a house dog?? Help

So in getting a new pup on Friday.. she's 7 months old and ready to learn. I've had plenty of hounds in the past but wife said this dog needs to be a house dog. She doesn't like them "in the cold all night and outside during hot summer days".. so I need some insight and opinions on this subject.. I know in the years past we had some -30 weather and I brought my hound inside and she started hunting horrible after that so back to the kennel she went.. please give me advice thanks

I got a pup from a guy he said she was 8 weeks old but she was about maybe 5 or 6 weeks at the most.So my wife said she's not going to a kennel by herself so she became a house hound for about 8 or 9 months. My old school hunting buddies would come by and view her asleep on the couch and say she will never make a good hound like that. The time came to start her in the woods and you couldn't tell anything was wrong with her.In fact all that loving made her hunt and try harder.

I've seen plenty of nice hounds run and tree coon that lived in their owners house.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the insight. She's having fun with a hide so far. And only one accident in 4 days... thanks again

my experience is that it only makes them handle better. But it is a lot harder to cull the duds.

Coonhounds make excellent house/hunting dogs. They are smart enough to do both and make a better companion for spending time with you in all kinds of settings and learning your moods. Just make sure to toddler-proof your house. A hound can literally get into everything.
