another newbie here,been lurking for a while,this site if full of information.So I took the plunge,recently purchased 2 blueticks,my first hounds ever im so excited ,they seem to be very intelligent of course they are still pups(4 months) kinda hard headed at times .I don't know much about the sport yet but im eager to learn,been trapping for years,dont know why ive never gone done this road before.So you will probably be hearing from me in the future,with some probably stupid questions,

First of all Congrats I don't think you'll be disappointed other than you didn't get a redbone...lol...check out the UKC site and find some competitions in your area. Go on a couple as a spectator. You'll find people in your area hopefully to hunt with and make some great friends. Now before others here bash me I'm not saying you need to get into competition hunting or the drama that comes with it. But as someone that started coon hunting about 4 years ago and am on my second dog personally I found those guys to be a huge help. Good Luck and remember have fun!

TRUE!!!! all joking aside, coon hunting is an awesome sport, and you will find a wealth of info on this site. We houndsmen enjoy giving each other a hard time about the different breeds, but there are COONDOGS in every breed. The most important thing is that the dog trees, has the coon, and stays put!!

WOW,is all I can say,just checking back in almost 5 months later,what was I thinking :shock: ,man do I got my hands full ,bunch of wound up, non stop, hard headed,wont listen mutts,actually I wouldn't trade it for nothing its been a blast so far,the only thing that sucks is ive had them laid up for the last month for deer season,hopefully they don't regress any,one quick question, I have them penned up together,any opininon weather this could help or hurt there progression,ive had no problem with them together,just don't know if they should be separated or not, thanks

Only thing is if they are opposite sex they may breed, the other is if the same sex there will be a pecking order. Just food for thought.....most of all have fun!
