I bought a hardwood bean pup a few months ago, I've played with him with drags a few times but he was more interested in playing than anything. I haven't pushed him at all to hunt, different want to make the same mistake again. He is now 11. Months old and has really matured and settled down a lot. I carried him to where I knew there were a lot of coons and walked him down the creek. He would stay about 30 yards in front of me with his nose down until we found some fresh tracks and he went crazy, he bailed off the creek and hit the woods whining. He never opened up but I thought it was pretty good for a pup his first time in the woods

Sounds great Justin but I would get that dog into the woods. He needs lots of woods-time and I woulda started him months ago. Get yourself a caged coon and tease your dog raising and lowering the cage from a tree. After you can see his drive for killing the coon, release it and let your dog go a few short minutes later. Your dog has reached the age where he should be able to handle a fight with a coon now and I wouldn't be afraid to knock one outa a tree for him to chew on and build his drive. I would let your dog work with the coon and not help him. If he gets nicked up that will only make him more "coon-crazy" and be sure to luv him up real good when he trees and then again when he kills the coon . This concept has worked for me with my 12mos. Walker pup and it will probably work for you with ALOT of patience and repetitive work. Don't give up because its probably gonna take a lot of work and a lot time walking through the woods.
