This is Linnie, an adopted older hound. I have had some people say she's a coonhound and some people say she's a fox hound. I love her regardless, but I am curious about what type of hound she might be. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Could be either, fox hound is called a running Walker & coonhound is a Treeing Walker. Either way it's definatly a Walker.
Fox hounds are lighter built with tighter feet. Usually deeper chest.

Thanks, Jef, for that information!
I'm leaning toward coonhound for her. She's not very light built.

DEFINATELY looking like a Treeing Walker to me. Nice looking dog. Run her with a tree dog and see what she does!

Both coonhounds and foxhounds are descended from the same stock, so the differences are hard to tell from a picture. Find yourself a UKC competition hunt near you and bring her around. Without papers, she won't be able to participate, but the events are free for spectators and you'll learn a lot. The people there will be glad to express an opinion. They may tease you a bit if you don't hunt her, but that's how I got started hunting so you never know...
