Seems like particularly when the leaves are off coons in my area love to tree in the biggest tallest Hemlocks or Pines in the mountain. It's tough to find them if you hunt alone but almost always find them if you have a buddy along & one guy beats on the tree with the biggest rock you can handle & the other one shines the tree.

Down here in south ms we live in the line belt but I hardly ever make trees in pines. The coons down here seem to like the oaks the best.

In the north it changes by seasons. September-October we'll tree on a lot of White oaks when the coon are feeding in them before they drop acorns. Mid-late Summer you'll tree in wild cherries. Late June-July could be any kind of tree but you concentrate on Sweet corn fields often times they take a tree right on the edge. May-June they can be on raspberries so you hunt where they are or mulberrys. Winter is when I tree on the pines most often but can be anytime of year.

Seems like it varies year to year. Some years seems like I tree in nothing but Cedar trees for a couple months. Other years never tree in one. Go figure.

Round here they like any tree with a den in it lol. But on a serious note we tree in oaks for the most part.

I see a lot of pics of dogs treeing on saplings on FaceBook. I'm not sure where those guys live & hunt. I don't know if there are no big trees where they live or what's up with the coon where they hunt. I've only had that happen 2-3 times in my life but I guess according to FaceBook it happens more than I ever thought. I just can't understand why they only put pictures of a treeing hound & not a close up of a coon too! lol
