I just picked up my first coon hound pup last week. I'm used to training and hunting rabbit dogs so this will switch things up. I sure hope she makes a good one I'm just getting into coon hunting and can't wait to start getting out in the woods with my pup this summer. The pup is out of heavy Hickory Nut Harry blood on top and the dam is out of a litter mate to Insane Jane. I looked back on her dads side and there are a lot of big names. I know she sure has a lot of energy and is mean as they come.

She's 7 weeks right now since this is my first coon dog should I start doing anything with her right now? I know she's hyper and wants to chew on everything. I'd say she'll put a heck of a shake on a coon when she gets one knocked out to her from what I can tell by what she does to her chew toys. I was thinking about putting a collar on her and starting to work her with a lead. But it may be too early right now not sure.

I highly recommend you buy John Wicks books called Walk with Wick. You'll learn all there is to know about starting this pup.

Highly agree with Baumer. I bought the book a few years ago and have read it four or five times. Definitely worth the money.
