In the pkc rules it says off game is any animal that isn't a racoon or wild winged animal. Can anyone explain why that is the rule ?

The way I read it is that it's ok for my dog to tree turkeys. Ha Ha. Can anyone explain why "wild winged animals" are not off game ?

This is because "wild winged animals" naturally roost in trees, therefore it is very likely that your dog may tree on one with a bird in it.
This policy is to prevent certain individuals from seeing a bird in a tree and claiming it is off-game. I read the policy change about it a year or so ago in one of the magazines and I will try to find it for you.

I am sure if you re-read the policy, you will see nowhere does it state to plus a turkey.

Quote:
OFF GAME - Any game that is not a raccoon or a wild winged animal is considered "off game". For dog(s) treeing "off game",
both strike and tree points will be minus. Any dog handled, but
not declared treed at a tree or place of refuge where "off-game"
is seen will receive minus strike points unless declared struck
after the first dog treed. Dog(s) seen catching or baying off
game on the ground will receive minus strike points and deleted
tree points if called treed. If dog(s) are seen to be running off
game, their strike points will be minused and struck back in for
25 points.

Remember, this is a coon hunt.........the object is to tree and score coons - not turkeys. Basically your getting an "off game pass" on turkeys.

Thanks Buckshot. "Off game pass" is what I was looking for. I understand how to score off game. According to that rule turkeys are not off game and I would hope that most would know that turkeys are not what coondogs are supposed to tree. I wasn't serious about scoring plus on feathers hence the ? just trying to get an answer to my original question. I never would have thought that this rule would have to be established to keep a slick handler from getting another dog minused. Again THANKS !
