Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best career to have while balancing a good life/hunting ratio? A job that pays enough money to hit as many hunts as you want and have a decent house, truck, money for family, etc. Enough hours during the week to earn your pay, but doesn't leave you too tired to hunt 2 or 3 nights a week!

Any opinions?

I'd have to say an RN. I work 3 12's a week and self schedule. Plenty of money to play with if ya budget right and don't have to live in a mansion and drive a $60,000 truck. I feel i am very blessed.

Probably should find a career first then worry about your hobbies. Sounds like you would enjoy a job with some flexibility. Might want to look into being self employed but that can backfire pretty quick and end up working more hours, but at least you will be able to take off when ever you schedule it in.

Anyone on here a lineman for a power company? I've been told that's a great job, demanding, but a good job.

Hey I'm a Lineman for a power company. I live in southern Illinois its a great job and great benefits but I also work alot of overtime. But then you can buy a high powered coon dog. If I dont make 100,000 a year I didnt work enough. I still have time to coon hunt but when work calls its hard to turn it down I like the money too much.

I'm also a lineman. Work has taken me all over the country but now I'm living in ohio so I can coon hunt hard again. Been stuck in colorado just cat hunting for years. Like the other guy said, good job, good money, but demanding. I still get out enough but not every night.

I just started working for conkey's hound and hunting supply. By far the best job if you want to be out in the woods every night hunting and trying out new products!

Draw a government check. For a "bad back" or not being able to read or write. Then you can hunt every night. That's how some guys around here have the time to hunt. I work 2 jobs plus farm. So spring and summer I don't get out much. Mostly winter and fall for me

these governments checks don't pay what you think they pay its under minimum wage or mine is anyway. if I didn't work for a liven I would not be able to do nothing lucky I had some retirement to fall back on before my back screwed up and I tried to go back to work but they just look at you as a law suit waiting to happen. I was the same way of thinking it must be nice to sit at home do what you want and draw a free check guess what it don't work that way or it don't for me sure I still hunt but not like I use to don't do a lot of things what I once did But iam not dead yet. what I have is what I had 5 years ago when I was working spent over 15 yrs at the same job. and they just don't hand them checks out its a drawn out process... sorry for rant it just burns me were certain ones can take advantage of the system and makes everyone think its just so great I would love to have my back pain and damage gone and go back to work and do what I use to do. might be able to hunt 3 times a week or 1 time in 3 months it is just a day by day thing you got to learn to live with and it sucks. just something to think about
