I have a couple of walkers and their style of hunting seem to differ. One really drives a track and the other just bounces around checking trees. There are pluses and minuses to each but both find the meat.

Just wondering what others prefer.

I prefer a strong track dog too. My best dog is a strong track-driver, but will do both- On bright nights when the woods is lit up and coons arent moving a lot, I have seen her switch to tree-checking. Either way is fine, as long as they get the coon!
Its really enjoyable to hear a dog run a long track... But its also fun to hear silence one second and hard treeing the next!

A good one can do both from what I understand.
I prefer a track dog over a lay up artist. However my opinion doesn't matter since its your dog and your the one who is leading it.

Prefer tree checker myself....too many dogs in this area I live tend to tree slick due to driving track too hard.

Just a thought but can't a dog be both?? If they're a good track dog they'll be able to take a track where a coon has tapped a tree and not just lock down on it. So they are actually checking the tree but then moving it on if that's what the track does. I had a bluetick that was a layup maniac but would pick up and drive a track like nobodies business.

My female walker off mojo is a strong fast track dog but a good tree dog too. She has the nose to go around and wind layups seen her do it many times. I prefer a good track dog because I like to hear a big dying locate and changeover jmo though
