I have a walker puppy she's only 8 weeks old. My wife loves her and treats her as a pet. I want her to hunt but also be a family dog. She has great bloodlines and looks very promising. I just want to know if she can be both a pet and still be a good hunting dog.

I believe they can. I've got some indoor blueticks that tree coon then sleep on the couch. Some folks argue it makes the dog smarter living Inside. They forced to think more compared to being chained up 24/7 or penned up all the time only leaving to hunt. Just my opinion...

That's what we're doing with our walker pup, had a shorthair that was an inside dog and she was a better hunting dog than all my buddies bird dogs. The dog will respond to your body language better and be much more loyal as a house pet than a dog on a chain or in a kennel. Just my 2 cents worth. Everyone has there own opinion on this topic though.

absolutely. the more time spent with a dog the better they are in my opinion. my two best sleep in crates in house.

dogs that stay in house are worked with 10 times more and get handle very quick and most hounds are very trainable no matter what anyone says. after hunting a hound that handles you will never go back to a renegade you only catch when treed.

There has been lots of champion dogs and world champion dogs that were raised in the house, never seen any difference in hunting ability if the dog had it to began with.

I think if your dog is in the house with you they will have a deeper bond with you. My 9 y/o cur sleeps in my 6 year old's bedroom floor. And we still go out and he's all over the coons when we hunt.

YES, A friend of mine form Georgia brought me a little Black & Tan pup about 5 weeks old my wife took one look and said she's to little for the kennel so she kept her in the house FOR SIX MONTHS. My hunting friends would come by and see that hound asleep on the couch and say, she will never do anything in the woods. But to those nay-sayers suprise Amy made a great treehound. We went hunting one night and Amy treed and was about 8 ft. up in the tree chopping her head off and one of those older hunters ask. What dog is that ? And I said that's the little hound that you saw asleep in my house.

I'm just wondering how deep on average your all dogs go every turn out?

I wouldn't say this is an average but my redbone which is a house dog will go 3/4 of a mile. He goes 900 yards quite regular but probably 500 to 700 yards is average.
