You can walk around shinning trees with a spot light but ive never found it very effective unless over bait piles of corn. I haven't tried it myself but seen some videos of people calling them out of den trees during the day with a electronic call like you would use for coyotes. Good luck and be safe!

Im sure somebody around their would let you tag along. Maybe if you show your dad your responsible enough to take care of a hound he might be willing to let you have one. A hound takes work. It just aint about hunting. Hope you get that hound soon and happy hunting.

If I were you I would get into coyote calling you can make some money on those pelts. Once you show your father that you are responsible with money and can earn your own, I'm sure he would be more Willing to talk about it by then. I bet there are a heck of a lot more coyotes where ya live then ya ever realized once you get good at calling them in.

The first thing How old are you?????..A lot of young people get started out by hunting with others..Most learn from uncles or even grandpas. If there dad does not coonhunt...Coonhunting can be expensive that could be a reason your dad is saying no right now..You could show how serious you are by asking for some books to read. To learn everything you can about coonhunting before ever getting a dog..Your Dad might even like reading the books .I like the Walk with Wick books just starting out.You will learn more about coonhunting and training DOGS than most guys learn in a lifetime of hunting,,Also the best way to start out is with a older well broke dog.Than messing with pups because not many pups turn out to be a dog you would really want to keep a long time...Coohunting is not a lot of fun unless your hunting with a good dog..

I hunted for 3 yrs shinning and just this yr I got 2 pups and found a guy to help me out. It's possible but man it's a blast with dogs. You might luck up a see one shinning but it's not as likely. I did it, if your truly interested in it go out and do all you can do wit what you have! It's tuff but don't give up!! I'm 27 and never been with anyone and started reading a lot on here and it's a ton to read but u will walk away with great knowledge. Yes if you can find someone tag along but if not still go out and have FUN!!!!
