Patience my friend. Late next summer try to find a hunting partner with an older dog that is straight( doesn't run off game). And let your pup learn. You will have good nights and bad nights, hang on for the ride. Good luck.

Mr Johns books are full of good advice and the first thing he would tell you is to let your pup be a pup and don't push it and take it on lots of walks to the wood and teach it to mind and have manners. hes a good man and you could call and talk with him he will not steer you wrong. good luck

awesome not a more fun sport in all the world man and dog working together to accomplish the task of tree coons. nothing like getting to the tree and your dog looking toward you then back at the tree telling you dad he's up there. getting ready to start 1 redbone 1 mountain cur 1 walker and an English pup hopefully one out of the four will make a coon hound. can't wait God Bless and good luck I to got a copy of wicks book it is excellent. hunted for a long time by myself had a lot of problems I couldn't figure out nice to have something like that book as a help guide when your scratching your head going what is that silly dog doing now.

I was asking myself tonight when I got home, "why do I coon hunt"? My pup treed two dens and 2 possums tonight, my broke dog was attacked by yotes and ran off the tree, while driving around trying to catch him up I got stuck in a mud hole and had a flat tire. After fixing that, catching my hound and heading toward the house my wheel bearing went out in my truck... All I could do was shake my head and tell my buddies i'll see them tomorrow night! gotta love it!
Best of luck with your new pup!
