There was an old blue dog I was gonna buy. The old farmer who owned him said he had a REAL cold nose. Took it out for a trial and it just ran a trail through the woods then to the edge of a field and jumped up in the air. It kept running, zig-zagged across the field, jumped up in the air again and went deep in the woods on the other side. I asked the old farmer what all the jumping was about. He said there used to be a fence around that field.

Had a old B/T, that had a very cold nose, one time he trailed a coon for 8 hrs and when he treed there was just a skeleton of a coon in the tree.

I had to spend the night on the mountain a while back with two of my Plotts and two of by blueticks. I noticed the blue dogs had the coldest nose as they kept touching me with them as I tried to sleep LOL. I think each respective breed has certain strains within it's breed that are known for cold noses. I prefer Blueticks for overall cold nosed ability but I have certainly seen good cold nosed track movers in each breed. It really is a matter of preference, then finding a line of cold nosed dogs within your prefered breed. You should especially look for cold nosed dogs who can move a track.

One thing I did notice about dog owners...it seems like the bluetick people have a really good sense of humor!
