when running dogs during summer training season if your dog gets close to a yote den with pups the adult yotes will try to attack / run your dogs out of the area ..

i have discovered one thing about training dogs... to begin with you have to be smarter than the dog...now if it turns out that the dog is smarter than you trade him in on one that is a little dumber ! ...... come on sunset !

I shoot about one a month around me. I had to start carrying out any dead coons because they figured out there would be meat left and started coming in on the tree'd dog. They got so bold one time they rushed in and tried to take the coon I was skinning while the dog was leashed up. My hound is big enough they leave him alone now. They know he'll put a hurting on them. But they still get pretty close and hang around. The other night yipped about 30 yards away while I was skinning one. I carry a 22 mag pistol just for them.

My crossbreed cur/hound is 55lbs, I think she can take care of herself but I run my Jack Russell rescue dog with her for exercise. When my hound was young and still running a deer now and then I would always know because the Jack would come back, if it was coon, the Jack stayed right there with her, and when I knocked the coon out that ol Jack was all over it, but she is pushing ten now and fat and I worry a coyote will get her.

if a coyote is around the area and my dog knows it he will just stick close to me. he will still hunt but not as deep or hard as he normally would.
