I was just reading an old Gun Dog magazine this weekend from the late 60's or early 70's, and there was an article about the American Saddleback Association. I had never heard about this and I dont believe there is anything that exists today that deals with this. I was just wondering if anyone knew where the stock came from for these hounds, because they didnt really say in the article, but it sounded like the dogs could come from just about anywhere. I am just curious because I had never heard anything about this before and was wondering if anyone else had.

Basicly this is a American Saddleback Hound ..
They Were Mostly Crosses of Bloodhound to Existing breeds but of a smaller verity of the Majestic.. They Produced a Even color of "High Tan" or Saddleback Hounds ..
I have some Old Full Cry's that get prit deep in to their Breeding

I guess the Bloodhound cross makes sense. The article I was reading didnt really go into the breeding, but it did say that to have a sire registered they had to be a proven tree dog. From what I could tell they were just breeding for that high tan coloring with a jet black saddle and also to be houndy, it didnt seem like much else mattered. Anyone else have information?

My Grand Daddy hunted American Saddleback Hounds. His dogs were mainly off color Redbones and half Black and Tan half Walker. His hounds were used on various game deer, coon, possum, squirrel, hogs, and fox.I remember these hunts like they were yesterday.
The American Saddleback Hound is a breed that has about been lost and I think what is left should be registered in some kennel club.

Thanks Glynn. From what I read they were great hunting hounds and the color and hunting desire is all that mattered, without papers or lineage getting in the way.
