haven't been on here for awhile. i got foxhound as a rescue 6 years ago. he had some issues but we worked thru them ( i thought ). one issue was sleep startle. several times he'd wake and feign an attack but never followed thru. 3 seconds later it was like it never happened. one night i walked into the bedroom & he was in his hidey hole by the bed. i stepped on a nylon chew bone ( barefooted ) i did the stumble don't want fall dance & it set him off. i turned my head just in time to see him mid leap headed for my face. he hit me hard enough that i fell. i went into a curled crouch to protect myself. then it was like it never happened & he was fine. i went to the e.r. & needed 17 stiches around my right eye & nose. be nearly took out my eye. next morning i took him to the pound & had him put down, even after that i still miss him. i looked around & found a 1 1/2 year old blue tick bitch stray & a treeing walker mix but the wife wasn't having it. she wanted a small dog. we ended up with a jack russel/corgi rescue. just not the same. she is a hunter though. she's caught 2 squirrels & a young woodchuck & so far 8 moles. bad part about the moles is that my yard looks like an artillery target range from all the digging.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's hard to put one down after working with the dog and it has become part of your life. I hope the corgi mix helps. I've had a dogless house and it was a misery to come home after work till I got another dog. Got two, in fact, but it just wasn't the same.
